ESSENTIAL SKILLS
602.238.4353MSC Room 138Essential Skills is your first class at the Maricopa Skill Center. To ensure that you have a solid foundation for success in your program area, the Essential Skills team will measure your skill in handling information, comparing the results to national industry standards. You will assess in up to seven areas: reading for information, applied mathematics, visual information, observation, listening, teamwork, and writing. If writing is important to the job you are training for, you may need to complete an additional writing task. If there is any area in which you need support to reach industry levels, our instructors will help you bridge the gaps, so you may advance to your program area as quickly as possible, ready for success.
KEYTRAIN™ The most important tool we use to measure and build your skill set is a computer program called KeyTrain™, which is based on the nationally-recognized WorkKeys™. Our instructors will guide you as you work at your own pace, using a variety of textbooks, videos, and hands-on resources to develop your skills. As soon as you show your readiness for the classroom tasks ahead, you will move forward to your next stage of training.
