The Medical Assistant Program prepares you to work in a variety of health care settings such as physicians’ offices and clinics.  The coursework includes medical terminology, basic anatomy and physiology, legal and ethical aspects of health care delivery, office skills including patient data management, clinical skills including basic phlebotomy, medication administration, sterilization, and specimen testing.  Graduates of the program may become certified or registered by one or more professional organizations.

INFORMATION SESSIONS

Obtain all the information you need to know about the Medical Assistant program at our Information Session held on the third Wednesday of each month.

Important Note:  Please arrive no later than 3:00 pm.  Sessions begin at 3:15pm SHARP.  Due to the high demand for these programs, there will be no admittance to the session after 3:00 pm!

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Must attend an information session prior to enrolling.  Prospective students must obtain a fingerprint clearance card, TB test, and immunizations prior to admission.  Students must complete a 40 hour per week externship for five weeks to complete their certificate.

SCHEDULE
Medical Assistant programs start in cohorts.  The Medical Assistant information session will provide details on start dates.  Classes meet Monday through Friday from 8am to 3pm.  Students are required to attend both the lecture and the lab.

ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENT
Students must attend a minimum of 20 hours per week.

You’ve decided to train for a new career and selected your program - now it’s time to get enrolled! We’ve simplified our enrollment process to these four steps so it’s easier than ever to get started as a Maricopa Skill Center student.

ImageStudents in the Medical Assistant program will have to meet health and safety requirements including obtaining of a valid Arizona Department of Public Safety fingerprint clearance card.

Potential MA students are no longer required to take the TABE test.

2.  Complete a Student Information Form

This form collects basic information about you and creates your student record. Access the form online at my.maricopa.edu or complete the form at the MA Information Session.

3.  Secure Your Funding

Whether you choose financial aid, out-of-pocket, or funding from a government/community agency, you will need to establish funding verification. Agency funded students must provide a letter of authorization from the agency.

4.  Receive A Start Date

Once funding is secured, you will be given a start date for the next Medical Assisting cohort.

5.  Start Class!

Your first class is Essential Skills and begins at 9am in room 138 on your start date.
